DSDN101 - The Clip - Final Film.

Final film for the clip, with new added sound!
I hope you enjoy the snazzy elevator music, I know I did.
Doesn't everyone?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All digital scenes were draw frame by frame, the thing that disappointed me most about this was masking the textures I had created on to paper, which it didn't agree with some of the surfaces/lighting. Therefor strange shapes where the bricks overlapped or double edged appeared. Since I was using "Trasm"(sprite/pixel tool) to mask textures aswell as create them.

Another thing that disappointed me was that the pixel art I did create for this was in such a high resolution, that when placed into the video and re-sized, they no longer looked as pix elated as I would have liked. Also, some of the images were out of alignment.

And the way iMovie decided to compress all my images. -___-
Quality loss on full screen.

Other than those two things, I think the outcome was decent, but I feel I could have done better, if doing the pixel art didn't become so tedious that I slowly began to loose interest in trying to fix them up, since every frame had to be drawn on separately(250).

Hmm, what sound would a computer make while digitally drawing.

DSDN101 - The Clip - Papercraft Scene(unedited)

Just to get a feel of what the last 13second will turn out like.
Every scene that is prolonged (0.1+ seconds longer) - Is where digital elements appear, which haven't been added yet.

A sleepless weekend is due and well needed to pump the rest of my digital elements within my stop motion. Still need to add transitions into scenes from when things switch from Digital to Physical, not going to lie they will probably be general fades or hordes of spites rampaging across the screen to hide elements I can't be bothered editing as I'm currently lost for ideas on my transitions. >_____> Rooftops of "paper-buildings" will be covered later on, as they are going to accumulate a digital form. Thus the idea of going back between 3D/2D planes.

At the end of where the screen goes black, the buildings are going to be de-constructed by space invaders/alien type sprites, and return to their two-dimensional form.

DSDN101 - The Clip - Digital Scene

First 17seconds of my stop motion, which would be the only digital part of my clip. After this, translates to a physical paper crafted world, with the character being printed out of a "paper-craft" printer, labled "A New Way of Seeing" as my transition from 2D to 3D.
Need to speed up in certain areas.

DSDN101 - The Clip - Digital Scene

Digital Scene/Setting remade(2DWorld), to fit the resolution of photos captured for still motion clip. Has some minor details missing from what has been shown in storyboards due to length/time it takes to crate an image pixel by pixel.

Especially in this resolution. If I generated the image out of shapes, I could get transparent pixels and distorted coloring. therefor I felt this would be the more effective way, in terms of "look".

DSDN101 - The Clip - Texture Masking Test

Essentially, I had an idea which has made me want to go from 2D Digital forms, to 3D paper-craft to 3D Digital(animation timeline in sense?...)(I also feel this would help explain my idea of interaction between 2D/3D planes more)

The paper-craft transforms into a "pixel" version of the scenery, aiming for the whole "retrospective" computing feel, as mentioned in my 300 world write up.

0:00:1:00 seconds. Pixel bricks start creeping up paper buildings, along with simplistic lines. I find the clip slightly too fast, and it looks bad, although video is just a second. Experiment with idea more.

Another development video to try gain a feeling of how things will turn out, before I decide to go ahead with masking textures, as I feel It could also lessen quality, for when scene is re-shoot.

A version with a slightly longer delay, easier to see than above.

DSDN101 - The Clip - Interm

Unedited Video, images chucked together with a 0.2second delay. Trying to get the feel of motion that I want to achieve in between frames and the movement of objects.

Also a rough idea in the direction my final video is going to be heading.

DSDN101 - The Clip - Standpoint

Focal point: Media+Design

The idea for project 3 "The Clip" was of how new technology these days are allowing the use of  - " 2D and 3D worlds interacting with one another, Fabrication of 2D digital realities in a 3D world."

For example, how a cell phone or handheld can become an interface to connect with the 2D world(virtual also), or even how we perceive a movie with 3D capability on its screen, the screen being its 2D plane/surface or even this idea in reverse, how now though technology we  have the Xbox 360 kinect and motion rigging, anything equivalent that could detect and use elements and movements from one plane and translate to another.

To create and show  forms on 2D planes I have gathered  ideas, shapes and forms from some of the most renown retro gaming  medias such as, Space Invaders, Defender and Pac-Man  with a slight influence of the Habbo-Hotel  style, I intend to try and hint at these "retro-medias" with small references throughout certain clips of my stop motion.  To achieve these "retro" forms I felt use of a slightly polished version(s) of the pixel art style(16/32bits mixture)  from the 70s-1900s would be effective. Inspiration for this idea came from a videos I found on Vimeo titled "My Desk is 8-bit"( Alex Varanese. 2010. My Desk is 8-bit) [Stopmotion], aswell as "Pixels"(Patrick Jean, Matias Boucard. 2010. Pixels. [Short film]. New York.

Both medias  show evidence of the digital world, of which the forms originally existed on 2D planes  or had the idea of existing 2D planes that begin interacting with a more physical world, I intend to take a spin off this idea by using the more retrospective 2D world interacting with 3D forms, with the use of paper craft models and masking pixel work over objects via Photoshop.

DSDN101 - Group Assignment Two - Written

We, (Chris,Emma and Clara) had the task of creating a company slogan to sell
sportswear and promote our brand name KASI. We had come together and
brainstorm ideas that would best suit our company, its the brand that we are
trying to sell.

As we are a sports merchandise company, the intention of our advertisement is
to 'sell' the idea that KASI caters to a wide variety of sports, people and
sportswear. Keeping this in mind, we needed to think of engaging and original
ideas that we thought would best draw our customers in.

Our aim was to keep the ideas pretty much the same as our first group project
to keep the consistency when it came down to making the 15second
advertisement. This involved keeping a theme of black and white and having
some kind of sports equipment as our main focus, so it was clear what exactly
it was we were trying to sell.

Our Sports Ware Merchandise Company KASI provides to all audiences and caters
to a variety of different sports. Our advertisement displays this
appropriately given the time we had to do it in and the amount of group time
we had together.

DSDN101 - One Word Film - Final Video - Vortex

Final Animation of Vortex, Added Sound and ending that didn't cause slowing down of video, or un-smoothing. Also fits animation.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film, Draft 2 Video (without sound)

Full Animation created smoother tweens as It lagged on some computers.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film, Draft Videos(without sound)

A basic video of the intro for my Vortex animation, testing how smooth I can get the spiraling effect with various layers and motion tweens.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Recorded Sound + Audacity

After being disappointed in the search for appropriate .wav files for my animation. I took the task of creating the sounds myself in audacity with my microphone. I had made 5-7 sounds that I tried to sync with my animation, in variations of "swhoosh, psssh, and keh" like sounds, to follow with the words as they spiraled around the middle.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Vortex, Final, Selected Word

My final board for Vortex which is also the word I had selected to animate for my 10-50second film. I had changed the ending to swirl away rather than towards as I had trouble slowing the tween down without ruining the length of the film.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Ooze Final Storyboard

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Sticky, Final Storyboard

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Brainstorm, Initial Ideas

Draft idea for my word, "Vortex" the word breaks up into its letter form instead of word as they as sucked towards the center of the scene, think a vacuum of black hole, this process repeats itself, a few times till a mass of words form in the center,  eventually the word enlarges from the gathering mass and screen turns white, parts of the original word fly into the scene.

The initial idea behind ooze was to apply human like features to text, the idea of something non-human but more synthetic getting an infection of some sorts, inanimate objects becoming sick or catching a virus. The purpose of this was to give it a reason to ooze, so for example, a grazed knee gets infected, puss can ooze depending on how serious the infection can be, etc.

Bubblegum, was the thought behind this, the way when after being chewed, can stick to surfaces, or to additional lumps of gum. When you pull a gumball apart far enough, tiny stringy pieces of chewing gum begin to dangle and form the space created. Thus explaining the wrapper type form at the end, the gum spat back into the wrapper.

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Brainstorm, Initial Ideas

Rough ideas draw from generated and selected words.

Initial Ideas/Thought In Text.

Selected/Drawn:

Ooze: Extensive use of shape tweens and text with-in text to create texture, Essential idea is the word "Ooze" will gain pore like markings on the face of the text and being to "ooze" a liquid, think "a pussing infection" pores get clogged up from over-flow of slimy substance oozing from the text, causes inflammatory, thus ooze beings to drip more faster, faster thus filling the scene and Turing it black.

Implode: Pulsing text, enlarges, takes over all screen space, quickly gets sucked back in, to a smaller version of text, expands again, explodes inwards and vanishes. End scene, words lightly fly down from top of scene, particles left over?

Decay: Give the text an essence of life in time lapse, text grows old and begins to decay into a skeletal version of its former self, typeface swaps out.

Organic: Text starts in a seed like shape, begins to sprout into a word, thing circular, curved shapes, word appears along shapes.

Vortex: Text begins static on stage with the use of motion tweens, letters begin to follow each other off stage sweeping to one of the sides. Letters begin to spiral as if being drawn/sucked into the middle of the scene, at end process beings to reverse the last spiral and the word "vortex" gets spat back out of the vacuum.

Text Ideas:

Ember: Begin with wood/grain texture on text, text ignites, burning(shape tween for flame effect?) Text turns from white to black with black grain, pulsing from white to black to specify an ember effect, giving the text a glowing effect. This would be achieved with the use of frames on different layers, swapping symbols in and out of the scene.

War: Create a sense of conflict between the text, eventually text breaks out in fight, trying to gain area on scene(fighting over land? resources? etc..)

DSDN101 - P2 - One Word Film: Brainstorm, Initial Ideas

Eight Words I came up with for my brainstorm, Ooze, Ember, War, Sticky, Organic, Vortex, Implode and Decay. After doing a brain storm, I selected words that I had interest in and begin looking for appropriate typefaces to use within my animation. Typefaces were downloaded off "dafont.com"
As followed. Helvetica Light Std, Kaine, Matchbook Serif,  Matchbook, Pseduo, Futurist and Normal Tryout.

DSDN101 - P1 - Copy+Transform - Ex: Invididual Work

DSDN101 - P1 - CopyxTransform Inmdividual Work:

The technical drawing artist I've chosen is Da Vinci, I found his classical anatomy drawing style interesting though sketchily, they show good detail(mussels and in some cases human organs). What I enjoy about this style besides the detail is how it shows possible movements that the subject matter, i.e human figure is capable of. I would use this technique to show the possible variations of movement that the item I'm using(headphones) are capable of, folds, extension etc.
